NEW sire proofs from Holland see two newcomers at the top of the rankings, with the former number one sire plummeting out of the top 100 with the addition of a large number of second crop daughters.
Labelle (BL) falls from £128 to £101 PIN (calculated using the old conversion formula available at the time FW went to press (Tues).
Genus sire analyst James Simpson attributes this drop in performance to the records in progress (RIP) effect which saw Sunny Boy – and in the February evaluation run Jabot – move down the rankings. Based on whats happened to these bulls, Labelles will be a short-term drop, he adds. Jabot has nearly returned to his first crop level after his RIP dip in February.
Top Dutch sire ranked on the Dutch economic index INET is the Mascot son, Sir Marke Mascot which received his first proof in February. But with a Dutch total score for type of 99, he is unlikely to be marketed.
Second in the rankings, and the highest climber in this new run, is the Mascot son and calving ease sire Etazon Knockout. He is out of a Cleitus dam from the Walk-up Bell Lou Etta family which produced Delta Lava, one of the top type bulls in Holland, and the high production and type bull Etazon Lord Lily – one of the top Dutch sires of sons. Again using the old conversion formula, Knockout now has £125 PIN, up from £110 in February.
Two most promising newcomers are Delta Novalis from the same family as Knockout and the high type Mascot son Southland Marker.
Novalis offers both high type – at 109 total score – and high production (£116 PIN). One of the earliest Target sons, he is out of Delta Esmeralda, dam of Delta Lava.
Southland Marker, from the Sweet family in the States, is said to be the highest type bull in Holland with a total score of 118. He offers over 1100kg milk and £88 PIN.
