Lambs popular in Maidstone

MAIDSTONE Market in Kent held its first sheep sale since the start of foot-and-mouth last week.

The market penned over 1600 store lambs in one of this seasons first store lamb sales, which also included the annual Horsmonden lamb sale.

Auctioneer Lambert & Foster achieved a total clearance, but said smaller lambs that needed a longer time to finish were in the greatest demand. The overall average was £29.74. Texel cross lambs topped the trade at £36.20.

Stronger sorts sold from £32-36, medium size from £28-31 and smaller lambs in the £22-27 range. &#42
