LEDtorch uses lot less power
THE most efficient and reliable means of illumination ever devised, is the claim by Hyde-based Outdoor & Sports Company for the Lucido torch.
Dispensing with conventional light bulbs, the Lucido employs a bank of light-emitting diodes to provide the light source. These, says the maker, are not only more efficient – more than 90% of battery power is used to heat the filament in an ordinary bulb – but they are claimed to last up to 11 years without blowing or breaking.
With the low power requirement of LEDs batteries are claimed to last up to 15 times longer than when used in a conventional torch.
Durability and longevity there may be – a trial with the torch by farmers weekly would appear to confirm this – but the only down side was that the torch did not throw a beam in the conventional way. With no lens the light tended to spread, requiring it to be positioned quite close to the target to make full use of the available light.
Price of the Lucido torch, which is 18cm long, shockproof and waterproof, is £24.99. *
