Linseed seed in great demand

LINSEED seed is in demand, but there will be enough to go round, say suppliers. However, those who leave it until the last minute to order may not get their first, or even second, variety choice.

With many expecting the linseed area to double this season, seed ordering has started early. For the same reason prices are holding slightly firmer than this time last year at £1-1.25/kg including flea beetle dressing.

Traders say prices are unlikely to dip below £1/kg, although some big buying groups have already broken that barrier.

Barbara, Agrostar, Antares, Zoltan, Flanders, Jupiter and Moonraker are all popular.

Buy back contracts for commercial linseed at £110-120/t ex-farm are tempting many growers, standing well above some more pessimistic trade predictions.
