Lupins new soya
WINTER lupins could become the soya bean of Europe over the next 10 years, says an Irish specialist.
"Lupins can be grown successfully in Ireland and provide an excellent protein feed for animals," says Jim Crowley from Irelands Teagasc advisory service at Oak Park Research Centre, Carlow.
Lupins contain 35-45% plant protein and yield is 3.5-5t/ha (1.4-2t/acre) at 14% mc.
