M&S claims GM-free feed lead

MARKS & SPENCER claims it has become the first British retailer to rear all its fresh beef, lamb, chicken, eggs and salmon on non-genetically modified feed.

The same assurances could be offered on pork and dairy products in the next few months, said M&S on Thursday (25 January).

David Gregory, M&S head of technology, said the retailer had responded to consumer concerns over GM food ingredients and animal feed.

GM food ingredients were eradicated through a partnership involving farmers, feed suppliers and processors, Mr Gregory added.
