Madonna in market?
A TOUCH of showbiz hysteria swept the land market last week, with the news that Madonna is planning to buy the Ashcombe Estate.
Most national newspapers splashed the story that the "queen of pop" is set to buy the 1134-acre sporting estate, on the market with FPDSavills for £9m.
But a spokesman for the firm denied that any deal was in the offing, although she conceded that the original material girl may have visited the property. "I do not know where the Press got their information from, some of the quotes attributed to us were clearly made up."
Other agents are more sceptical, suggesting there is no smoke without fire. "This rumour got so much coverage I am sure it was started within Savills," said one.
Whatever the outcome, Ashcombe would seem ideal for a well known personality looking for privacy.
Deep in the Dorset countryside, even some surveyors have reportedly got lost trying to find it.
It also boasts what is considered by some to be one of the top 10 pheasant shoots in England. *
