MAFF mounts hygiene blitz

THE Ministry of Agriculture is mounting a campaign to improve standards in abattoirs. It might publish the results of hygiene tests.

There will be an independent food standards agency which will co-ordinate measures to improve hygiene.

Butchers shops are to be targeted in a further 65,000 inspections over the next two years. It is part of the Governments £19 million initiative to improve food standards and help prevent the E.coli 0157 bug.
