Management survey
Management survey
FARMERS milk recording through NMR and interested in taking part in a survey to identify management practices associated with longevity in UK herds should visit the Kingshay stand at the European Dairy Farming Event, at the NAC, Stoneleigh, next week.
The survey is part of a project on longevity run by Kingshay Farming Trust, and funded by the Milk Development Council.
"The useful life of cows in recorded herds is 3.6 lactations, and with a replacement heifer costing upwards of £950, herd depreciation is a major cost worth tackling," says Kingshay development director Duncan Forbes.
The survey will involve 500 farms, establishing reasons for animals leaving their herds over the next 12 months. Participating farmers will receive a longevity profile specific to their own herd.
Project results will be made available to all UK farmers. Details from Kingshay in the Cattle Centre at the event or call NMR help desk (0345-660236). *
