Market puts cattle among the pigeons

WORCESTER cattle market is to sell 56 pigeons this evening — the latest initiative to help the Midlands auctioneer ride out the recession.

The birds are not destined for the cooking pot. They are champion racing varieties expected to fetch up to £300 apiece.

The sales will help to improve the economics of the market. Throughput now averages just 250 fat cattle and 2500 sheep each week.
