The farming and food industry will come together for a service of thanksgiving to celebrate the life and achievements of Caroline Drummond MBE.

In her role as chief executive officer at the Linking Environment and Farming (Leaf) charity, Caroline transformed the organisation from small beginnings 30 years ago into the leading voice on delivering sustainable food and farming.

She also helped to develop Open Farm Sunday – the farming industry’s annual open day initiative for the public – and one of Leaf’s flagship events, which takes place every June.

Achievements recognised

Caroline was awarded an MBE for her services to agriculture in 2009, and in 2019 she won the Farmers Weekly Lifetime Achievement Award.

The memorial service will be held at 11.30am on Tuesday 27 September at Stoneleigh Abbey, Warwickshire, CV8 2LF, followed by light refreshments. It is open to anyone who wishes to celebrate Caroline’s life.

Donations in memory of Caroline can be made on the day to two causes that were very special to her – the Leaf charity and Cancer Research UK.

‘Driving force’ behind Leaf

Paying tribute, Leaf chairman Philip Wynn said: “Caroline was known to so many across the farming industry for tirelessly championing the development and uptake of more sustainable, regenerative farming.

“She was also passionate about bridging the gap between farmers and the public. For more than 30 years she was the driving force behind Leaf, which has grown from its humble beginnings to the globally recognised and respected organisation it is today.

“This memorial service will be an opportunity for her many friends and colleagues from across the farming industry to come together, remember and celebrate her life and remarkable achievements.”
