Milling wheat boost
WORK at Reading University suggests the herbicides Cheetah (fenoxaprop-p-ethyl) and Starane (fluroxypyr) can both boost milling wheat quality – even in the absence of weeds.
"There was no effect of weeds or time of application," says Reading University research student Naveed Aslam Awan. But increasing dose of herbicide did significantly improve protein quality and increase protein content by up to 0.5%.
An effect on nitrogen assimilation in the wheat could be the cause of the unexpected results, he suggests. More work is being done. *
