Monsanto apologises to NFU’s Gill

MONSANTO, the US biotechnology giant, apologised to the head of the National Farmers Union (NFU) for using his statements in a £1 million advertising campaign promoting genetically modified food.

Ben Gill, NFU president, said he was disappointed with the advertisement. He said some “mischievous” people were now saying he was “in Monsantos pocket”.

Monsanto used parts of a press release which supported the use of genetically modified crops. But it omitted to use other parts of the same press release which expressed reservations about their use.
