By FWi staff
FOOT-AND-MOUTH infected area restrictions have been lifted in another part of Essex, the Ministry of Agriculture has announced.
Controls have been lifted around Braintree, releasing 1406 farms, in the second removal of restrictions in the county in as many days.
On Tuesday (24 April) controls were removed in the Brentwood area, including the abattoir where the first foot-and-mouth outbreak was detected in February.
Now a total of 12,542 farms in the UK have had infected area restrictions
lifted, reports MAFF.
Thirteen new cases of foot-and-mouth were confirmed on Tuesday, taking the total UK total to 1470, amid growing signs that the epidemic is coming under control.
In the seven days up until 22 April an average of 16 new cases were confirmed each day, compared to 27 in the seven-day period ending 15 April.
