Neighbours lift prices

STRATEGIC buying by neighbouring farmers helped Mouchel achieve good prices at an auction of North Yorkshire County Council land last week.

Agent Andrew Purkiss was particularly pleased to sell 30.88 acres of non-IACS arable land at Aldborough for £2526/acre – well in excess of the CCs reserve.

He says the acquisition of the land has helped improve access to some of the farmers existing land. Another 10.91 acres near Whixley were bought by a producer who acquired his 90-acre farm in the centre of the NYCC estate in 2000, apparently with the intention of snapping up any extra blocks that became available in the future.
