New English Nature head named

THE chairman of the Association of National Park Authorities has been appointed the new chairman of English Nature.
Martin Doughty will fill the gap left by Barbara Young, who left the Governments advisory body on nature conservation last autumn.
Baroness Young left to become chief executive of the Environment Agency.
Mr Doughty, who is also leader of Derbyshire County Council and will relinquish both his positions before taking up his new post.
Environment minister Michael Meacher said: Martin Doughty will bring to English Nature drive and commitment to nature conservation and vast experience of management in the public and voluntary sector.
He will be an excellent ambassador for nature conservation.
Mr Doughty has been a member of the Peak District National Park Authority for over 10 years and its Chairman since 1993.
He has also held and continues to hold a number of key roles in the public and voluntary.
