New spring event for the Hereford

AFTER a break of 11 years the Hereford Cattle Society has announced that it will be staging a new spring show and sale on Sat, Apr 26 at Leominster Cattle Market.

Although there were only seven Hereford bulls entered at Perth this week, the breed society says it is confident that the new fixture will draw wide support from members.

"A growing demand for breeding cattle, especially from beef producers looking to the Hereford as a source of replacements for suckler herds, is largely responsible for reinstating the sale," said breed society secretary David Prothero.

He added that demand for Herefords in Northern Ireland and Eire had been high in recent months.

&#8226 Supreme Simmental champion at Perth was Milnafua Felspar from Milnafua Farms, Invergordon, Ross-shire.
