NFUs Gill to back EMU

NFU president Ben Gill will tell a conference today that
staying outside European economic and monetary union (EMU) could be damaging to
British agriculture.

He will warn the conference on EMU and British Agriculture, organised by
Farmers Weekly, that non-entry could accentuate the “boom and bust” cycle
that recent currency fluctuations have caused in farming.

He will say eventual membership of a successful single currency would be
beneficial to UK agriculture.
