NHS fails rural people, warn nurses

THE NHS does not take account of the needs of country people, the Royal College of Nursing conference has heard.

Farmers would rather speak to a vet than a GP because they understood more about their lifestyle, the conference was told on Tuesday (04 April).

Delegates heard how the culture of rural communities meant that many people did not want to speak about problems, but that nurses could counter this.

The conference was told of a scheme in Cumbria, where nurses visit a market to help counter farmers feelings of isolation.
