One-pass partners

Europe has recently seen a

proliferation of machinery

shows – Eima, Smithfield

and the RAI to name but

three. We provide an

extended report of the

new developments

launched, starting with

Amsterdams RAI

Trim, suck and blow. Herders latest verge trimmer – the Grenadier Eco Pro – blows trimmings into a trailer. Is this something UK hedgetrimmer manufacturers might consider?

New Holland and Welger(left) cater for the demand in Holland for one-pass bale/wrapper units.

SUCH is the interest in baling and wrapping in one pass, baler manufacturers have not been slow on finding suitable partners for their machines which can achieve these demands.

New Holland at the RAI show exhibited its RB 548 baler (an uprated 544) attached to a wrapping unit built by Dutch company Gewitech.

When a bale is ejected from the chamber it rolls onto a holding frame before being lifted onto the wrapping table where twin satellite film dispensers apply the film. The number of wraps can be pre-programmed and an option for this particular system is for the wrapping table to be equipped with weigh cells so that the total amount of baled material can be recorded.

Not to be left out, Welgers RP220 round baler was exhibited with a Goweil wrapper attachment. Unlike the Gewitech, the ejected bale is deposited directly onto the wrapping table which is then moved by chains to centre itself between the units twin film dispensers.

Both Goweil and Gewitech claim that providing a system which allows the balers door to be shut immediately after a bale has been ejected helps to increase output – by as much as 10 bales an hour, they say.
