Perkins adds punch to Belarus

By Mike Williams

A PERKINS 1000 series engine is available as an option for the new 130hp addition to the Belarus tractor range from the former Soviet Union. Standard version of the 1221 tractor is powered by a six-cylinder turbocharged engine made at the Belarus factory. Engine capacity is 7.2 litres and the 130hp rated output is developed at 2100 rpm.

The Perkins powered version is the 1321 model with the engine also comprising a turbocharged six-cylinder block with 130hp output, but the capacity is 6.0 litres and the rated power is delivered at 2200 rpm.

Both versions have a gearbox offering 16 forward speeds and eight reverse, giving a top speed of 33 km/hour (20.5mph). The hydraulic system has a 53 litre/min maximum output and 5200kg lift capacity measured at the lower link pivot points.

Standard specification includes four-wheel drive using the familiar Belarus design portal front axle, but the Perkins powered tractor has a Carraro front axle.

UMO Belarus said it hoped a Perkins option will attract additional customers, and if the idea is successful it could be extended to other models in the Belarus range.

The Perkins powered 1321 model will be available on a special order basis with deliveries starting in the summer, but price details are not yet available.

Price of the Belarus powered 1221 model is £27,500 and tractors are available this spring.n
