Poor results with Regina

PETER WADDELL, of Park Farm, Linlithgow, reports a poor performance from his Regina winter barley, cut on Monday (6 August).

It yielded 5.62 t/ha (2.25 t/acre) at 16% moisture and 1.6% nitrogen. He has sold it for 70 per tonne.

He attributes the result to the poor autumn weather: The crop was sown three weeks late in a wet seed bed follow by 14 days heavy rain.

He desiccated the crop with glyphosate (1.5 l/ha of Round-up Biactive) prior to harvest. This probably helped the moisture levels in an uneven crop.
