Praise for farmers’ market pioneer

NINA PLANCK, the organiser of Londons first farmers market, has been named one of the most influential people in the capital city.

The Evening Standard guide to Londons movers and shakers spotlights the people working behind the scenes to make the capital work.

It names 28-year-old Ms Planck in a list of 300 “power people”, which includes Prime Minister Tony Blair and Prince Charles.

Ms Planck founded Londons first farmers market, which was opened by agriculture minister Nick Brown in Islingtons Camden Passage last June.

She now runs three farmers markets in the capital, and will give up her job as a speech writer at the US embassy in the New Year to open three more.

“As Londoners grasp the importance and health implications of using fresh ingredients, farmers markets are here to stay,” says the paper.
