Prince attacks abattoir red tape
THE Prince of Wales has spoken out against red tape which he claims is ruining the countryside and driving farmers to suicide.
He called on the government to ease charges on small and medium-sized abattoirs, imposed in the wake of the BSE crisis, reportsThe Express.
Around 800 abattoirs have closed since these were introduced.
Prince Charles, speaking at the Radio 4 Food Programme awards, said the trend threatened farmers livelihoods and caused distress to livestock.
