Progress still slow

JIM LOFTHOUSE of Eildon Grain, says, “There is not a lot to report, we need some bristling sunshine.” He predicts 25% of winter barley has been cut in his area.

“Its not a big winter barley area. Weve seen 400t of feed barley and a couple of loads of Regina. Its very slow.”

Although there is high nitrogen content, the specific weights are good and screening are as low as 5%. “Farmers are quite happy, although the yields are not exceptional.”

He is concerned by the weather. “If spring barley and winter wheat come fit together there may be bottlenecks occur.” He foresees the majority of winter barley being combined in the next couple of days.
