THE major retailers at the show were attempting to build better relationships with farmers.
Jocelyn Clarke, who is responsible for the Waitroses regional policy, said the store was stepping up a campaign to source more local produce and quality regional food for its 136 shops.
She pledged to source more local products. "If a supplier can only supply one shop, thats fine, Id be glad to hear from them."
Marks & Spencer announced it wants to bring customers face-to-face with its farmers in a Meet the Farmer pilot programme this autumn, which will see farmers and growers on hand in stores across Britain. *
