Right to roam poll supports legislation bid
MOST voters want the government to press ahead with legislation giving the right to roam over the countryside, according to an NOP opinion poll conducted on behalf of the Ramblers Association.
The survey showed 85% of those questioned believed the government should "give legal freedom to walk over mountains, moors, heaths, downs and common land, subject to common sense restrictions to protect the environment, crops and animals".
Environment minister Michael Meacher said he would take account of the survey findings. *
