Right to roam watered down?

THE government is preparing to dilute elements of its countryside bill to ease its passage through the House of Lords.

Right to roam is not to be extended to woodlands and river banks to address landowners concerns.

There will also be tight limitations on landowners legal liability for accidents to ramblers on their land.

The Country Landowners Association, whose 50,000 members own 60%t of land in England and Wales, gave a cautious welcome to the concessions.

The bill is to be published in February.
