Scots beef men plan inspection service

THE Scottish Beef Council (SBC) is offering to set up an independent inspection service in a bid to ease the resumption of beef exports.

John Cameron, the chairman, said the requirement to prove that the mother of an animal offered for export had survived for six months after the birth was creating difficulties.

This can take up to a fortnight to discover.

Mr Cameron called on the government to allow an element of farmer certification. The SBC proposals for an inspection service would be an interim measure.
