Scottish farming ‘verging on the apocalyptic’


HILL-FARMING in Scotland is bad – and likely to get worse, according to a recent special conference at Stirling University.

A contributor to The Scotsman reports on the conference, which discovered the truth of that statement only days later. The annual lamb sale at Lairg in Sutherland saw lambs fetching half of what they sold for last year.

The contributor says Scottish farming is “verging on the apocalyptic”.
