Scottish union switch
THE National Farmers Union of Scotland has announced a name change – to NFU Scotland – and also a switch in status from an association to a company limited by guarantee.
The latter move is estimated to save the union several thousands of pounds by allowing it to reclaim VAT. Both changes will take effect from June 1, following agreement last week at the unions annual general meeting.
Ed Rainy Brown, chief executive of NFU Scotland, said the move to company status gave the union the proper, recognised business structure it needed to develop further the commercial services it was now offering members.
"The change in name allows us to update our image, although there is no intention to change our logo in the meantime," he added.
In recent weeks, the union has launched a range of new services, including NFU Assist, a separate commercial company offering to handle all paperwork for farmers, from VAT returns to IACS applications. *
