Senator slams US farm aid — in Iowa
SENATOR John McCain, a challenger for the Republican presidential nomination, attacked American farming subsidies when he appeared on television in Iowa – the heart of the countrys agricultural production.
McCain also focused on government payouts supporting the production of ethanol, touted as a substitute for petrol.
Iowa farmers receive hundreds of millions of dollars each year in ethanol subsidies despite an almost complete lack of demand.
