Shadow minister slams Zimbabwe land grab
MICHAEL HOWARD, the shadow foreign secretary, waded into the Zimbabwe “land grab” controversy with a call for a freeze on British aid to the country.
The Zimbabwe Government announced the redistribution of 841 mostly white-owned farms to poor black peasants last week.
Mr Howard wants aid suspended because those who will have to hand over their farms will not get compensation.
Proper compensation was a part of the deal agreed between the Zimbabwe Government, the farmers and international aid donors, including Britain, when it agreed terms for a previous tranche of 118 farms to be transferred.
