Simmental bulls have influence
TWO of the Simmental breeds most influential bulls of recent years featured in the pedigree of the overall champion at the societys autumn show and sale at Carlisle.
Hopwell Justinian was sired by Brinkton Brilliant and out of a cow by Sacombe Wishful Thinking – two bulls widely used by Robert and Elsie Hedley in their small pedigree herd at Ockbrook, Derbys.
The 18-month-old Justinian was on his first outing from home and weighed 936kg on the day. He had a 400-day weight of 683kg – almost 70kg above average – and a Beef Value of 26. He realised 2000gns to take up pedigree work in J and J Gemmells herd near Wakefield, West Yorks.
Top call of 2100gns came from W Lax, Richmond, North Yorks for Beaghall Jacob, a Sterling Flint son from M Brears and Sons herd at Goole, North Humberside. Hes bred from the famous Revelex Wilde family and stood second in his class.
Well-known local breeders Robert Carter and his son Andrew also drew 2000gns for their Gerrard James, a Carrigeen Farm Dandy son out of a Brilliant dam. Buyer was T Chalmers, Canonbie, Dumfriesshire. *
