LEAF have launched a CD-ROM enabling people to visit a working farm
without leaving their home.
The virtual farm walk shows how farmers are balancing profitable food production with environmental
management and animal welfare.
The high-tech interactive tour, aimed at adults and kids, provides an introduction to the countryside,
touring arable and livestock enterprises, and showing woods and wildlife. NFU president Ben Gill describes it as "a fantastic piece of technology providing another
important gateway for people to visit a farm.
"The industry continues to face a huge challenge of
bridging the information gap that is in danger of widening between food and farming," he says. "This farm tour will help by letting people know about the
contribution farmers and growers make – not just in producing food but in caring for the countryside." It can be obtained by sending a cheque for £5 (£3 for LEAF members) payable to LEAF, The National Agricultural Office, Stoneleigh, Warwickshire, CV8 2LZ.
