SLF convener to tackle land reform
FIFE landowner Robert Balfour, the newly-elected convener of the Scottish Landowners Federation (SLF), has pledged himself to work for a more flexible means of letting agricultural land.
In an interview with The Herald, he said he aimed to create opportunities for new leases and greater diversification encouraging a wider range of activities in the countryside.
He said the SLF would be taking a tough line on the Scottish Executives land reform proposals, which are seen as being ill-defined.
He also believed the proposals in their present form would act as an obstacle to investment and a potential block on sustainable development.
