SNFU plans to keep up pressure for aid
THE Scottish National Farmers Union (SNFU) plans to maintain the pressure on the Government to deliver financial aid to the industry.
The Government is currently carrying out a review of the agrimonetary compensation.
The SNFU is trying to arrange a meeting with the Prime Minister. They have already arranged meetings with the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Stephen Byers, and the Bank of England. Both of these meetings will concentrate on the effects of the strong Pound and high interest rates.
The union last week met Secretary of State for Scotland Donald Dewar. He pointed out to the farmers leaders that the issue could not be sorted out in Scotland alone.
