Special harvest festival in the heart of the big city

"ST MARTIN preferred the life of the country to that of the city," says the Rev Nichlas Holtam, vicar of St Martin-in-the-Fields, the London church close to Trafalgar Square where the Farmers Club is to hold its Harvest Festival.

"We very much hope that through this service we will be able to give thanks to God for all our blessings and to pray for strength to continue our stewardship of the resources we have been given. We look forward to singing that all indeed is safely gathered in," says the Rev Holtam.

The Farmers Club chairman, Ken Young, hopes that the service, which takes place at 4pm on Mon, Oct 5, will be well supported by members and their guests. There will be a buffet supper at the Farmers Club (£15/person) afterwards or, for those who cannot spend much more time in town, a cream tea (£2.50/person) will be available in the gallery in the crypt of St Martins. Reservations for tea or supper must reach the secretary by Sept 25. Inquiries (tel 0171-930-3751 fax 0171-839-7864).
