Superlevy delay continues

SOME DAIRY farmers are still waiting to hear whether they incurred a superlevy last year, almost two weeks after the Rural Payments Agency announced the final figures.

Although most producers have now been informed of their position, members of Dairy Farmers of Britain were still awaiting confirmation on Thurs, Aug 12.

The co-op said that despite a 19% threshold, 33 members incurred a combined bill of £500,000.

Milk Link exceeded its quota by £1.4m – almost a quarter of the UK superlevy.

While 170 members were over quota, just 10 would share a bill of £700,000, said membership director, Mark Brooking.

Of Dairy Crest‘s 1400 direct suppliers, 80 are faced with a joint charge of £1m.

Arla Foods‘ total liability reached £60,000, to be split between just two or three suppliers, and nine First Milk members will share a levy of £125,000.

Glanbia, Robert Wiseman and Wyke Farms all ended the year within quota.
