by FWi staff

AN 11th case of swine fever in East Anglia has been confirmed by Ministry of Agriculture veterinary expects following tests on a Norfolk pig unit.

The infected farm in North Norfolk is situated next to a farm that became the 10th to be confirmed with the disease.

The farm had already been designated a dangerous contact unit and the pigs on it were therefore due to be slaughtered before the outbreak was confirmed.

No new movement restrictions will be imposed as precautionary controls had been imposed once the unit was suspected of having the disease.

There are another five farms in Norfolk and Suffolk highly suspected of having swine fever awaiting the results of blood tests.
