SET your soil potash level target for the most demanding crop in your rotation and aim to keep it there, advises John Hollies of the Potash Development Association.

Failure to replace K taken off in crops can trim yields by up to 65% within four years on light land, he told a Peterborough meeting.

Trials showed potash from the soil was more efficiently used than fertiliser which could be concentrated in a small zone.
