This home-maker has self-respect

I REFER to the letter written by Janet Godfrey, chairman of the Womens Food and Farming Union, (Farmlife, Dec 1) which said: "Few self-respecting modern women expect to be home makers in todays climate of equal opportunity."

As a former teacher, I spent years at home caring for our home and our children as they grew up. Now they are teenagers I help with the potato harvest and other farm work and run a farm visit business. However, I still spend a lot of time cooking, cleaning and caring for the family – and you know, I never realised that while Im dusting the nooks and crannies of my old farmhouse, that I should be searching for my self-respect.
