Top young farmer announced

JAMES CAMPBELL of Cuil Farm, Castle Douglas, was named as Scottish Young Farmer of the Year at a dairy trades dinner in Edinburgh this week.

Mr Campbell, 27, is a partner in the family-run farm. He took over milking of the 150-strong Holstein-Friesian herd in 1994 and under his management it has grown to the present level of 240. Impressive increases in milk yields have also been achieved.

Robert Wiseman Dairies of East Kilbride was named as Scottish Dairy Company of the Year.
