Trooper in the Farming Army

THE GUARDIAN runs a profile of a farmer who has been caught in the current economic malaise afflicting the industry.

Clive Swann farms 250 acres in the Flintshire Hills of north Wales. Faced with no income from his farm, he has just been forced to put 12 acres up for sale to tide him over the winter.

Mr Swann is a leader of a so-called Farming Army, which held a series of mass pickets earlier this year at food distribution warehouses. He said he would resume the protests in the next few weeks.
