Two cuts of silage between maize?
TAKE up to two cuts of silage between maize crops with the Italian ryegrass mixture, Aftermaize, says seed supplier Barenburg.
The crop could also be grazed in the autumn/winter and is suitable for using as a one-year ley, it adds.
This new seed mixture of diploid and tetraploid varieties is said to give aggressive growth and good weed suppression. Providing a cover crop will also help prevent soil erosion and retain fertility, holding nitrogen in the soil, says Barenburg.
Each 25kg bag will cost less than £48 (01359-270766).
