Uganda urged to plant ‘clonal’ coffee

UGANDAS coffee production is held back by its slowness in taking on high-yielding “clonal” coffee, reports the Financial Times.

High-yielding advantage have been around for 20 years but no more than 5% of growers have planted them. Clonal coffee yields three times more coffee and is resistant to wilt disease.

The expansion of clonal coffee is held back by the shortage of credit for growers.
