UK delivered and export news – HGCA

UK Delivered

  • UK delivered cereal prices closed largely unchanged on the previous weeks values.
  • one bread wheat prices basis Liverpool saw the greatest rise, moving between 1 and 2.50 higher.
  • Ascension day and half term holidays, combined with more stable currency movements gave little impetus for buyers or sellers to trade significant volumes.
  • Indeed, brokers reported that the low level of UK cereal future trades last week was matched in the delivered market, especially for old crop positions.
  • Trade sources suggest volumes will remain thin until clearer information on the quality and quantity of the UK harvest is known, or significant supply and demand changes are apparent in a UK, EU or global context.

    Export prices

  • UK grain export prices were little changed from last week. The Bank Holiday at the beginning of the week in the UK and a Public Holiday on the Continent on Thursday meant that trading offices were generally quiet throughout the week.
  • New crop prices were pressured by the weakening of world wheat prices, although sterlings movements counteract this to a certain extent.
  • Farmers were reported reluctant sellers at the current offer prices for new crop wheat.
  • Euro1 = 62.3p at time of writing.
