UK HF merit rising
GENETIC merit of the UKs top Holstein Friesian herds continues to improve, according to latest Animal Data Centre figures.
In the last six months average ITEM for the top 10 UK herds has increased by £3 to £75, according to ADCs Gordon Swanson.
Retaining first place – for the fourth time in succession – is the Genus MOET herd, Bays Leap, Northumberland, with an average ITEM of £97. Second is Spiby Partners Olympian herd, Sussex, with an average ITEM of £85. The Chadwick familys two Cheshire herds are third and fourth, with average ITEM of £79 and £77, respectively.
New to the top 10 is Edinburgh Universitys Langhill herd, with an average ITEM of £66.
Top Ayrshire herd from the Sloans, New Cumnock, Ayrshire, has an average ITEM of £42.
Top Jersey herd, with an average ITEM of £55, belongs to B Sadler, Cheshire, while the Blumenaus Guernsey herd, Cornwall, is top with an ITEM of £31.
The top Shorthorn herd is from the Howes in East Sussex, with an average PIN of £34. *
