UK malting barley breaks into Hungary
By FWi staff
THE first reported export cargo of Pearl malting barley from the UK arrived in Hungary last week.
The 1250-tonne order was exported by Saxon Agriculture from Associated British Ports new facility at Kings Lynn, with two more shipments planned for early 2001.
“It represents a significant breakthrough into the European malting barley market,” said Saxons Andrew Clements.
“This year it has been easy to achieve the minimum GAFTA specifications with Pearl, but much harder with Regina. We predict that Pearl will be the variety we shift in the future.”
