A NEW challenger to fill the gap in the systems tractor market left by the demise of the original MB-trac, was launched at Agritechnica 99 in Hanover.

Manufactured by BAT in the Ukraine, the redesigned XT3 series systems tractor is powered by a six-cylinder 170hp Deutz water-cooled, direct injection diesel. A 120hp model is to be made available soon.

The tractors stylish appearance conceals a basic 12-speed mechanical transmission, providing forward speeds of 3.9-31km/hr (2.4-20mph), which transfers power to four, equal sized wheels equipped with 23.1 R26 radial tyres.

Front and rear leaf-spring suspension, with hydraulic dampers on each wheel, is designed to provide a smooth ride when the tractor is used for transport at high speeds. Further comfort is provided by the cab which is mounted on iso blocks, a suspension seat and air conditioning which is standard.

View to the rear load platform and three-point linkage is good. View to the front and the optional linkage has been improved by the sloping bonnet and installing the air cleaner intake and exhaust system on either side of the cab.

Price of the 170hp version in Germany, is about £28,000. &#42
